IRVINE MAYOR SUKHEE KANG JOINS OVERFLOW CROWD OF 500 AT CREAN LUTHERAN SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY SUNDAY City of Irvine’s First Christian High School To Open Fall 2010 Located At Corner of Portola Parkway and Sand Canyon Ave Irvine, Calif. (March 7, 2010) – Crean Lutheran South High School (CLS), an affiliate of the Pacific Southwest District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, http://www.psd-lcms.org/, that includes Orange Lutheran High School, broke ground today on the first phase of a planned 30-acre campus adjacent to the Stonegate development in the City of Irvine. With Irvine Mayor Sukhee Kang and an overflow crowed of 500 guests looking on, five groups including members of the CLS senior class, the school's Board of Directors, faculty, lenders and design and construction representatives, and the administration took turns breaking ground as part of a one-hour ceremony at the site, which is located at the corner of Sand Canyon Avenue and Portola Parkway. The ceremony marks the construction of the first Lutheran high school to be built in Orange County in over 35 years and the first Christian high school ever built in the City of Irvine. Crean Lutheran South High School, www.clshs.org, has operated in an education building on the St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church campus in Irvine since its inception in August, 2007. In January, City planners approved the initial development of 18 acres of a planned 30-acre build-out. Phase One is scheduled to open in the fall to 450 students with an ultimate build out to over 1,200 students over the next several years. “Crean Lutheran South High School has established a strong foundation of leadership, impressive teacher quality and a clear sense of purpose,” said Dr. David Brown, Executive Director of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Phase One of the campus, which is estimated to cost $44 million, is scheduled to open in Fall, 2010. The approximate cost of the total build-out of Crean Lutheran South High School is estimated to be roughly $90 million and the project is scheduled to be completed over the next several years. Financing for the project is being provided by Lutheran Church Extension Fund, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and Farmers & Merchants Bank.
